Homemade Conditioner Bars

For a lot of us, our hair is one of our most defining features. Haircare is an important part of a daily routine and you want to be sure that you are putting conditioner on your hair that is healthy and will help it stay clean and strong.

Lots of store-bought shampoos have lots of toxic chemicals in them that will damage your hair and cause it to become dry and weak, so what can you use to nourish your hair?

Homemade Conditioner Bars

Natural remedies for conditioners are perfect for hair care as you know exactly what is in them. There are no harmful chemicals that could damage your hair, just completely natural ingredients that will soothe and nourish your hair.

Making homemade conditioner bars will keep your hair happy and healthy as well as save you money as they will last longer. Here are some recipes you can easily use at home to make your very own homemade conditioner bars.

What Is A Conditioner Bar?

A conditioner bar is simply a hair conditioner in the form of a solid bar. It looks just like soap, so make sure that you don’t get them confused!

They have many benefits to your hair as the bars are completely homemade so they are packed full of natural ingredients that will keep your hair healthy.

By using natural ingredients on your hair, they naturally moisturize your hair and prevent breakages and split ends.

Conditioner bars save you a lot of money as a little goes a long way. When you are using liquid conditioner, it can be difficult making sure that you don’t use too much and you can end up wasting a lot of the product. The bars also have a long shelf life as they can be stored for up to a year!

If you are traveling, conditioner bars can save you room in your suitcase. As they are in solid form, there is no need to worry about the amount of liquid you are taking. They are also very environmentally friendly as you are cutting down on plastic use.

What Are The Main Ingredients?

Some staple ingredients will make up your conditioner bar. The ingredients that are used in the bars will help to keep your hair clean, moisturized, and healthy. You can get these ingredients from the supermarket or any health store in your area.

Beeswax/Soy Wax

Beeswax or soy wax plays an important part in making up your conditioner bar. The wax component that you use in your bar will help combine all of the ingredients and make the bar solid. If you are vegan, soy wax will work just as well as beeswax and may be easier to find in health stores.

If you decide to use beeswax in your conditioner bars, there are some added benefits of including it. As beeswax naturally contains a high amount of vitamin A, this will help to keep your hair moisturized and prevent your hair from becoming dry and damaged.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter helps to soften your hair as it has incredible moisturizing properties that can help your hair stay soft and silky. It also provides your hair with a natural shine and helps to protect your hair from split ends. Cocoa butter is very beneficial for your skin and nails and helps to strengthen them and protect them against damage. You can also add a lot of scents to cocoa butter as it complements a variety of essential oils.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is very similar to cocoa butter as it is incredibly moisturizing for your hair. The main difference between cocoa butter and shea butter is purely based on the scent, so if you have a preference for scent, then you can only use the one in your conditioner bar. However, you can use both in your conditioner bar as it will be super moisturizing and beneficial to your hair.

Shea butter is often found in moisturizers as it can soothe your skin, hair, and even provide some moisturizing properties to your scalp. Just because shea butter is often found in skincare products doesn’t mean it can’t benefit your hair as well!

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is found in lots of skincare and haircare products as it is incredibly moisturizing for your body. It is popular in hair care as it prevents dandruff, dry hair, split ends, or any breakage that can cause your hair to become weaker. It is also popular to use in cooking, so you can pick it up at any supermarket.

Coconut oil is often found in hair and face masks as it is incredibly good at soothing any breakages in your skin and hair.

Mango Butter

Similar to cocoa and shea butter, mango butter is also very nourishing and moisturizing for your hair. The butter comes from the pit of the mango, not the actual fruit. Therefore, if you dislike the mango scent, you don’t need to worry as there isn’t a strong mango scent to the mango butter.

Mango butter contains a lot of vitamins that help to keep your hair strong and healthy. These vitamins strengthen your hair and prevent any breakage that could be caused by dry or damaged hair.

Carrier Oil

In your conditioner bar, you will be using essential oils to make your bars smell beautiful. When using essential oils, it is important to add a carrier oil when transferring them onto the skin as directly applying essential oils onto the skin can cause irritation.

There are a few carrier oils that you can choose from to add to your conditioner bars such as jojoba oil, almond oil, and avocado oil. You just need to add a couple of teaspoons of carrier oil to your conditioner bar mixture to ensure that you will not experience any irritation from the essential oils that you use.

Essential Oils

It is optional to add essential oils to your conditioner bars but it is recommended if you would like strong-scented conditioner bars. Some of the most popular blends include a combination of sandalwood, rosemary, and lemongrass for an earthy scent.

There is also a floral-scented blend consisting of lavender, orange, sage, and lime. Finally, a popular soothing blend is made up of lavender and chamomile.

Conditioner Bar Recipe

Firstly, place a glass bowl over a saucepan and melt the cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter, and beeswax or soy wax. Once they have melted, stir to combine them and let them cool off the heat.

After the mixture has cooled, add vitamin E oil and your chosen essential oils and carrier oil. Stir to combine the mixture.

Next, pour the mixture into silicone molds to set. You can choose whatever shaped molds that you want.

Once the mixture has hardened, pop the bars out of the molds and begin to use them straight away. If you have made a batch, be sure to store them in an airtight container.

How To Use The Conditioner Bar

It is extremely easy to use the conditioner bar. Once you have finished shampooing your hair, wet the bar. Once the bar is wet enough to lather, lather it in your hands until you are happy with the amount that you have.

Rub your hands into your hair and rinse with warm water. Alternatively, you can rub the bar directly onto your head. It is entirely up to you how you decide to use your conditioner bar.

Final Thoughts

To conclude, making homemade conditioner bars is extremely easy and beneficial to your hair. As you are making the bars with completely natural ingredients, your hair will be healthier and you will see an improvement in the quality.

The soothing natural oils in your conditioner bars will help to keep your hair strong and prevent it from drying out and breaking.

The ingredients for the conditioner bars are easy to buy in stores so you can make sure that you are using the right ingredients. You can adjust the ingredients based on your personal preferences.

If you dislike cocoa butter, use shea butter, or the other way round. We recommend that you use both, but you can tailor the recipe to your preferences. Choose your scents too, but remember to add a carrier oil to your bars.

Finally, it couldn’t be quicker or easier to make conditioner bars. If you are tired of not finding a shampoo to strengthen your hair, these homemade conditioner bars will soon have your hair feeling strong, shiny, and smooth.
