How To Use A Diffuser

Here is an easy step-by-step guide on how to use a diffuser correctly.

  1. Choose a diffuser mix to try — You can try one of the recipes on this list, or experiment with your own. Choose one that complements your mood, explore with a new one, or choose one that contains the emotional/physical benefits of essential oils that you desire. Do not be concerned if you lack a certain essential oil. You can try to substitute the missing ingredient for a similar oil and you may have the same result.
  1. Fill your diffuser halfway with water. Make sure that you do not overfill. Ultrasonic diffusers require additional space at the top to allow the water to flow quickly enough to convert into the cool mist that comes from the diffuser’s top. If the water level in the diffuser is too high, the diffuser will create less mist. Reduced water volume (more space at the top) leads to more mist. Excessive water (inadequate to no space at the top) produces little to no mist.
  1. To the water, add the essential oils. In this article, the diffuser mix recipes are prepared for 300ml diffusers, but the recipes may easily be adjusted to fit any size diffuser
  2. Put the cover/lid on your diffuser.
  1. Connect your diffuser to an electrical outlet and switch it on. Within just a minute or two you should be seeing the mist come out of it.

Health And Safety

While using a diffuser can be very calming to both your body and mind, there are a few health and safety considerations you need to be aware of when using one of these devices.

For a start, you should only ever diffuse oils for 30 to 60 minutes at a time.

Avoid applying undiluted essential oils directly to the skin. If you want to rub some oils on your skin, dilute essential oils with a carrier oil such as jojoba or sweet almond oil.

Essential oils have been demonstrated to benefit an individual’s emotional, physical, and mental well-being. To get the best results, utilize pure essential oils and educate yourself on their proper use.

Individuals may react differently to essential oils; what works for one person may not work for you, so if you are having some negative reactions to an oil, stop using it immediately.

Final Thoughts

Diffusers filled with essential oils have several benefits to a person’s body, mind, and mood. With so many blends out there, you will be able to find a recipe for every occasion, mood, and need.

The best part of using a diffuser is that you can experiment with a variety of oils and scents, so if you cannot find a recipe that will help you, you can easily create your own.
